Fundraising Tips and Tools

Fundraising Tips and Tools

First, people can’t donate if they don’t know what AIDS Walk is, and why you are walking! So, the first & most important tip will be: talk about AIDS Walk with your family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and everyone you come in contact with. Talk to your grocer, doctor, nurses, dentist, anyone! Ask them if they want to join with your efforts, to support your cause, and to support the community!

Try being a guest volunteer in a dinner, a bar or a restaurant. For example, ask your local bar if they’ll allow you to be a guest bartender for a night, or even for a few hours. Invite everyone to join you & help you.

Create a sign to place on the bar that reads, "All tips collected tonight will go directly to (the person) who's walking in Phoenix AIDS Walk, to raise money for people living with HIV/AIDS and for the prevention of HIV/AIDS." Ask your favorite restaurant to help you fundraise: many restaurants will hold a percentage night, and some will even let you leave a donation jar at the register!

Do you have a favorite hobby or talent like photography, knitting, massage therapy, cooking, cleaning houses, or do you have anything that can be sold? Then trade your services for a donation! Let people know that you’re willing to trade your services for an AIDS Walk donation. Set your price high – it’s for a good cause!

Use your social networks - it’s another way to raise money, utilize them to advertise for any events, parties, fundraisers, or just to get the word out! Make some banners, send messages, use Twitter©, Facebook© and/or MySpace© to let people know what you are doing, and how can they help you!

Everyone has a stash of loose change in a cup or jar just sitting around. Ask everyone to donate theirs toward your goal.

Bake sales are a sure fire way to raise money. Simply make some of your very best cookies, cupcakes, or pies. Have your co-workers and friends get involved, especially those that can’t sponsor you financially. Advertise the sale and then watch the profits come in.

If you know a musician, jazz group, or DJ, ask them if they will do a benefit evening for the AIDS Walk at a local club or coffeehouse, or even in your home. Throw a party to benefit your endeavor, and ask people to make a minimum donation to attend. This is also a great way to get others involved, if you get your friends and family excited you could even form your own team!
